Are You A Robot? - Baltimore - 3/7/1986

There is a lot of good material in this lecture and it is entertaining to listen to. This summary is abbreviated because the talk has already been transcribed.

Subject summaries should not be considered authoritative of the tape contents. They were typed rapidly as the tapes were being played and are often paraphrases rather than direct quotes. Some of the selections were taken at random. They do contain errors and omissions and are only presented as subject locators and to help refresh the mind of what the talks contain.

File 1 = 43 minutes. We are all robots. People don’t like to hear that; we’re programmed. Material on the blackboard is the human psychological process. Abnormal Sensory Projection is the mirage. Line A-B is the physical projection. Mental Visions. Visions of Mental Projections. Alexandra David-Neel. Psychology of the Observer. The rooster and the bull have an ego. Amoeba manifests curiosity. We see without control. Propaganda. Reference to meeting Jim Burns. 50 years of anguish. True psychology is stepping into the other person’s moccasins. Burns said, “you can’t see it from here. You’ve got to transcend it before you see it.” Conditioned people can’t think clearly. Common sense thinking. Intuition. A mystic is someone who wants to know who he is. Meditation is attacking yourself. Throw everything into the computer. Polls audience on concepts of God. Direct-mind comes from true intuition and leads to change in state of being.

Side 2 File 2 = 45 minutes. RR ducks a question about the Hare Krishnas. I looked but never found an enlightened person until I had my experience. World like a big acid trip, one bardo into another. If you play the Boy Scout you’ll be the Boy Scout for eternity. If you become the truth you become the truth for eternity. People have the experience differently, but they all say the world is an illusion. When you die you die honestly, with despair, which removes the final ego. Three Books of the Absolute. Gurdjieff’s four men. Describes the levels and graduation from them. From intellectual to philosophic, man stops analyzing. It takes a shock. Indirect systems. Radha Soami sect. I believe in fatalism as well as the paradox. “What you can have in spiritual pursuit is hunger.” More Q&A. Don’t pay for truth. Death is a curtain, hid by a curtain. Cow has to give milk, can’t worry about death. Lady who says, “why does it have to be that way?” The experience may be a vast projection but it gives you an unmistakable message. Relates chronology: child, yoga, giving up to get married, had experience. Protected. When you know one thing you’ll know everything. Paradox. Man is infinitely one. Ramana, Kevala & Sahaja Samadhi. Hills are once again hills, valleys are valleys. Kundalini – bliss.

(Ends at top of page 25 of transcription.)

Side 3 File 3 = 31 minutes. Question – my problem is that an enlightened person is supposed to be gentle and full of love, but you’re trashing everything. RR – Great because these are all projections. People like spineless leaders because they’re afraid they’re going to get kicked. Questions about love, Christianity, Bible. Man creates God in his own image and likeness. Back and forth with argumentative person in the audience. I don’t attempt to argue anyone into the truth, with language. I can only put out certain thoughts. To argue is only to speak with someone who has already made up his mind. Terminology in esoteric matters and religion is complex and every term can be argued. Richard Bucke one-in-a-million. Direct-mind experience, rapport, sit and wait like the Shakers.

(end at bottom of page 34 of transcription).

Side 4 File 4 = 11 minutes. Materializations. Tibetan Bardo. Reincarnation as rationalization. Bob Martin’s thesis on man as a strand in space-time. No separate picture is the man; it’s the sum of all of them. No point in this kind of speculation. The important thing is that the observer still lives.
